Country Classification

The STOXX Country Classification Model is rules-based and transparent. The model is the first in the industry to exclude any subjectivity from the process. Our five criteria for the classification of a country as a developed or emerging market include macroeconomic data, market cap, market liquidity, free currency convertibility on onshore and offshore markets and restrictions on capital flows. The data sources for these diverse criteria are well known and independent global organizations (International Monetary Fund, World Bank and PricewaterhouseCoopers).

STOXX Ltd. provides a wide range of data and services related to the calculation and distribution of STOXX index products via www.stoxx.com. As of 1 April 2010 only those users that have entered into a license agreement with STOXX Ltd. are able to fully access and download data from www.stoxx.com using a Data Centre account.

Index Regulations

On July 31, 2014, STOXX Limited announced its compliance with the International Organisation of Securities Commission's (IOSCO) Principles for Financial Benchmarks for STOXX-branded indices. The objective of the IOSCO Principles for Financial Benchmarks is to create an overarching regulatory framework for benchmarks used in global financial markets.
